MEPZ–Gedee Technical Training Institute skill development centre takes shape at IGCC Meet
Marking a significant step in strengthening India’s advanced manufacturing talent pipeline, the MEPZ–GTTI Manufacturing Skill Development Centre moved forward today. The signing of a Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the MEPZ Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Gedee Technical Training Institute (GTTI), and a group of companies represented through the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) at the 59th Annual Regional Meet of IGCC held in Chennai on 25 November 2025.The MoU was signed in the presence of Mr. Michael Hasper, Consul General of Germany in Chennai; Mr. Jan Noether, Director General, IGCC; and Chief Guest Sri Kondapalli Srinivas, Minister for MSME, SERP & NRI Empowerment, Government of Andhra Pradesh alongside several distinguished industry and government leaders and IGCC members.
The Centre will offer structured training pathways focused on developing specialists in advanced machining and engineering disciplines. MEPZ has earmarked a 30,000 sq. ft. dedicated facility to house the Centre’s workshops, CNC laboratories, simulation units, and training bays.
In phase 1, the Center will offer short-term, industry-aligned programs in CNC Machining, CNC Lathe and Milling Operations, CNC Programming, ANSYS Simulation, and Mastercam-based CAM. Phase 2 will introduce long-term, deep domain programs tailored to high-precision manufacturing, enabling trainees to specialise in sectors that face critical skill shortages globally.
Speaking at the ceremony, Thiru. Alex Paul Menon, Development Commissioner, MEPZ SEZ, said: “With industries increasingly dependent on high-precision engineering talent, this Centre will play a transformative role in filling that gap. Phase 1 delivers focused, shop-floor-ready training in CNC machining and digital manufacturing tools, while Phase 2 builds deep-specialisation aligned with international certification standards. Through this partnership, we are preparing Tamil Nadu’s youth not only for advanced roles at home but for careers recognised and respected worldwide.”
Highlighting the global edge brought into this initiative, Mr. G.D. Rajkumar, Director, GTTI, said thta “GTTI has a long-standing reputation for delivering rigorous, precision engineering training based on German VET standards and this collaboration strengthens our ability to reach and develop more talent”
Mr. Michael Hasper, Consul General of Germany in Chennai, added, “Germany values its strong and growing partnership with India. The establishment of the Skill Development Centre reflects our shared mission to drive industrial advancement and technical excellence.”
The Centre will also house advanced training infrastructure, modern CNC equipment, simulation labs, and classrooms designed to reflect contemporary industrial standards. Alongside training, the Centre will focus on placement facilitation, industry internships, Train-the-Trainer programs, and pathways for accreditation through recognised bodies including TNSDC and NCVET. The Representation of companies from IGCC will further work toward integrating German vocational pedagogy into the programs to create internationally benchmarked talent.
By combining MEPZ’s industrial ecosystem, GTTI’s globally recognised training expertise, and industry-led governance and support from IGCC companies, the MEPZ - GTTI Manufacturing Skill Development Centre aims to become a model for future-ready, internationally aligned manufacturing skilling.
