Third MEPZ Health Camp Aids 10K+ Staff

December 2, 2025

The Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) Special Economic Zone successfully concluded its Third Annual Health Check-Up Program on 02 December 2025, benefitting more than 10,000 employees across its industrial units. What began as a basic health-awareness initiative has grown into a large-scale annual wellness program with steadily increasing participation.
Organized in partnership with Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, and the MEPZ Manufacturers’ Association (MEPZMA), this year’s camp offered the widest range of preventive diagnostics to date.

Expanded Diagnostic Services

  • General health checks: Blood pressure, blood sugar, and physician consultations
  • Cardiac assessments: ECG and cardiology reviews
  • Respiratory screening: Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT)
  • Vascular diagnostics: Doppler tests for varicose veins
  • Comprehensive eye examinations, including retina and glaucoma tests

Women’s Wellness:

A dedicated women’s health section offered Pap smears and mammogram screenings, supporting early detection of cervical and breast cancers.
The President of MEPZMA, Thiru. Kesavan, acknowledged the strong collaboration and expanded scope of services, calling this year’s camp one of MEPZ’s most impactful wellness initiatives. Building on this success, MEPZ aims to further enhance the program in 2026 with more advanced diagnostics and strengthened healthcare partnerships.

Healthy MEPZ:

As part of his address, Thiru. Alex Paul Menon, IAS, Zonal Development Commissioner, MEPZ Special Economic Zone, highlighted that one of the key pillars of the long-term Vision for MEPZ is to build a healthy and well-supported MEPZ community. He shared that efforts are already underway to establish a hospital within the MEPZ campus, along with a pharmacy, to provide accessible and continuous healthcare for all employees.

Looking Ahead:

He emphasized the need for greater participation from all stakeholders, especially blue-collar employees, with the goal of ensuring that every blue-collar worker in MEPZ, Tambaram, is covered through these health initiatives. To make the program more inclusive, he also encouraged family members of employees to participate in the health camps, particularly on Saturdays, ensuring broader community wellness.
Looking ahead, he announced that starting next year, the Annual MEPZ Health Camp will be organized in July, establishing a fixed schedule that will enable better planning, participation, and expanded healthcare engagement across the zone.
