Chennai Port is an artificial harbour situated 24 kms from MEPZ SEZ on the Coromandel Coast in South-East India and it is the second principal Port for handling Containers. Chennai Port has 21 alongside berths in the 3 Docks viz., Dr.Ambedkar Dock, Jawahar Dock, Bharathi Dock and Container Terminal. The Chennai climate permits port operations throughout the year The Port authorities have taken measures to reduce turnaround time of Cargo. At present, berths are available on demand.
Chennai International Airport (airport code MAA) is located in Tirusulam, India, about 8 kilometers from MEPZ SEZ. It is the 3rd busiest airport in India handling some 10.5 million passengers. Chennai has two passenger terminals, Kamaraj Terminal for domestic travellers and Anna Terminal for international travellers. A third terminal handles cargo. A new domestic terminal is being built next to the existing one while Anna Terminal is undergoing expansion.
Chennai is served by five domestic and 26 international air carriers. MEPZ is located in close proximity to Tambaram Sanatorium Railway Station. Southern Railway offers good local train service.
Metropolitan Transport Service (MTC) is offered by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu with good frequency. Local Transportation is provided by the Suburban Rail Service provides transport into the city and is connected by underground passage to the airport.
